Messing, Adam, Jasmine & Shore is proud to announce that partners Alison Berry Wilkinson and Lina Balciunas Cockrell will be featured presenters at the 2026 PORAC Annual Symposium, taking place April 22–23 at Pechanga Resort Casino & Spa. This annual symposium brings together public safety professionals from across California to engage with timely legal developments and emerging issues shaping the profession.
On April 22, Alison will present “Beyond the Text of SB 2: A Front Line Look at How California’s Decertification System Has Evolved.” This presentation examines how SB 2 has moved from statute to reality, reshaping accountability and career consequences for peace officers across California. Using real-world cases and investigations, Alison—a veteran LDF panel attorney, POST instructor, and trainer—will highlight concrete improvements to the decertification framework as well as persistent pain points, implementation gaps, and ongoing struggles.
On April 23, Lina will present “The Legal Fallout of Artificial Intelligence.” The future is now: artificial intelligence isn’t just a sci-fi fantasy anymore. Today’s technology can make parts of law enforcement work easier and safer—from generative AI for report writing and analysis support, facial recognition and biometric systems, automated decision-making for risk assessments and resource allocation, to “predictive policing” tools. But AI also raises new legal challenges: you still need to convince a District Attorney to file a case, prove your case in court, and minimize liability for yourself and your department. This session will provide an overview of the legal ramifications of AI in law enforcement, including constitutional considerations, statutory and regulatory frameworks, criminal procedure and evidentiary issues, civil liability and litigation risk, and the ethical considerations of using AI to guide or direct law enforcement actions.
Together, these presentations reflect MAJS’s continued commitment to equipping public safety professionals with the knowledge and strategies needed to respond to both established and emerging legal issues.
MAJS encourages clients and colleagues to attend this premier event and take advantage of the opportunity to gain valuable, practice-oriented insight. You can register for the symposium here.
